  1. This is release 2.4 of Excalibur. 6/1/97

  3. Excalibur is a Macintosh spelling checker for LaTeX documents. You can optionally turn off LaTeX parsing, so Excalibur is a good plain text spelling checker too.

  5. Features include:

  7. - Excalibur will offer suggestions for how to correct a word.
  8.  
  9. - Excalibur can spell check the clipboard. This makes it a good spelling checker for any text based application such as Alpha, BBEdit, or Eudora.

  11. - You can teach it about new LaTeX commands and environments that you define.
  12.  
  13. - Optionally spell checks text in the typewriter (\tt) font.
  14.  
  15. - You can create your own dictionaries.
  16.  
  17. - Works on any plain TEXT file.  (type TEXT)
  18.  
  19. - You will need System 6.0.5 or higher to run Excalibur.  It will run on any Macintosh from a Mac Plus on up.

  21. - If you are running System 7 or greater, there is balloon help.

  23. - Excalibur is free.
  24.  
  25. - British, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian and Spanish dictionaries are also available.  You can get these from ftp.eg.bucknell.edu in pub/mac/Excalibur-dictionaries.

  27. - It runs in native mode on a PowerPC.  This is a fat binary.

  29. - If you're not a LaTeX user, you can get a copy of the manual in PostScript, HTML or Acrobat Reader (PDF) format from ftp.eg.bucknell.edu in pub/mac.

  41. Version 2.4 new features:

  43. - Improved suggestions.
  44.  
  45. - Use a AGA compliant popup menu in the edit commands dialog if possible.
  46.  
  47. - Changed the Edit Commands dialog so that there is more room for the command name.
  48.  
  49. - The "Use german.sty conventions" option is now called "Use German babel conventions".
  50.  
  51. - Excalibur knows how to translate "s and "z when German babel conventions are turned on.

  53. - Added a check box to the open file dialog that enables you to view only *.tex and *.ltx files.  If you save preferences, Excalibur will remember the contents of this check box.

  55. - Excalibur knows about the Catalan geminated-l digraph.  In LaTeX, it recognizes \l.l and \L.L.  Using the Macintosh character set, type l.l or L.L where the period is a centered dot.
